Windows 7 End of Life: What You Need to Do Before January 2020
Windows 7 support ends in a few months. Here's a practical plan to be ready.
Microsoft has confirmed that Windows 7 will stop receiving security updates in January 2020. If your business still has PCs running Windows 7, now is the time to plan the transition — not next January, when support has already ended and every unpatched vulnerability discovered from that point on stays open forever.
Start by inventorying which machines are still on Windows 7 and checking whether their hardware is capable of running Windows 10 (most machines from the last five years will be). For anything too old to upgrade, budget for replacement rather than trying to squeeze another year out of unsupported hardware.
If you have specialized software that hasn't been tested on Windows 10, start that testing now, rather than discovering a compatibility problem in the final weeks before the deadline.
