Upgrading to Windows 10: What Small Businesses Should Know
Microsoft's newest operating system is out. Here's how to think about whether and when to move.
Windows 10 launched with a free upgrade offer for Windows 7 and 8.1 users, and it brings back a more familiar Start menu experience after the more controversial Windows 8 interface. For most small businesses, it's a solid release, but that doesn't mean you should upgrade the moment it's offered.
Before upgrading any business PC, check that your line-of-business software, printers, and any specialized peripherals are confirmed compatible with Windows 10. It's also worth waiting for the first few cumulative updates to land before moving your whole fleet, giving Microsoft time to iron out early rough edges.
We recommend upgrading one or two non-critical machines first as a test, confirming everything works as expected, before rolling Windows 10 out across your whole office.
